Meet Blue Dynamite, a Shortfin mako painting inspired by the fastest #shark in the world! These canvas posters are now available in a new size at the link in my bio 💙 All collectible posters are $48 and ship worldwide!
Shortfin makos are a species of Mackerel shark built for speed and spending their lives navigating the vast pelagic regions of the world ocean. Their body evolved to be extremely efficient at reducing drag, creating a hydrodynamic shape that allows them to reach speeds of 46 mph (74 kph) and hunt some of the fastest fish in the ocean - like tuna, swordfish, and bonitos.
Recently classified as endangered by the IUCN, the Atlantic Ocean population is especially vulnerable due to pressures from unsustainable fishing practices, where they have become a victim of bycatch - a term used to reference animals caught and died that were not the intended target of the operation.
Sharks have existed for 400 million years and are a keystone animal in the balance of our ocean health - and as a byproduct - to humans as well, especially regarding economy and food availability. Learn more about Makos on @atlantic_shark or explore ways to become involved in protecting them with the @oceanicpreservationsociety ✌️
