Drumming The Sounds of Nature . This is a pilot for a new spinoff series: Sounds of Nature! Can anyone name this sea creature? . To make the sound of the fins flapping in the air, I’m using a contact mic by @_organic_audio_ . I’ve attached it to a *very* thin steel cymbal, which also has a flop to it. The microphone picks up the vibrations when I pluck the edge of the cymbal - voila! I had so much fun experimenting with this new technique. Lots of possibilities here! What sounds should I make next? . For those who are curious, the animal is a Mobula Ray! It’s similar to a stingray, but without the stinger. The Mobula Ray is one of the most curious and playful animals in the sea (kind of like yours truly!). And they can jump over 6 feet out of the water! Wow! Nature facts!
