Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, states have been imposing severe restrictions and even bans on abortion. Some are talking about contraception bans, and preventing women from going to other states to receive care. Congress has failed to act to protect those rights, so today President Biden issued an Executive Order. It safeguards access to contraception and medication abortion, and makes clear that the Federal government will fight to preserve the right to receive care in states where abortion is legal. It also reaffirms and provides guidance on protecting patients private health information. These actions will be legally challenged. In the meantime, we implore Congress to take strong action to protect women's rights to receive life-changing and sometimes medically-necessary care.
