On this day in 1977, Bob Marley and the Wailers released their ninth studio album, Exodus.
Conceived in response to the heightened political moment in his native Jamaica, it was completed in exile; following an assassination attempt, Marley and his wife Rita had relocated to London.
Time magazine described Exodus as "a political and cultural nexus, drawing inspiration from the Third World and then giving voice to it the world over."
