#006 - February 25, 2003: Antonio & Chita! Antonio Banderas was making his Broadway debut in a revival of one of my favorite musicals of all time the Maury Yeston-Arthur Kopit- David Leveaux’s “Nine” which my parents took me to see the original for my birthday with a matinee of “Dreamgirls” to start for a very memorable Wednesday in NYC! Antonio was a BIG part of my favorite film director Pedro Almodovar’s movies! Nervous a bit I was introduced during a rehearsal for the & luckily I knew Chita Rivera very well already & he from the moment I met him was soooo embracing & amazing! The charisma between he & Chita was beautiful to experience! I didn’t even need to direct them, they knew each other for literally a few hours in this photo & the love affair still lives on! EVERY-TIME I see him he is always on the way to meet Chita for dinner & that warms my heart! Chita is such a legend & a beautiful force of nature that isn’t even of this earth...during the pandemic I shot her at a “Broadway: We Will Be Back” March 12, 2021 event & even with a mask-on was more popular than The Naked Cowboy, Elsa & Superman! Funny but TRUE! I ran into Antonio at Barbra Streisand’s concert in London’s Hyde Park in June 2019 - he included us in his group and we were whisked backstage - yes backstage where we caught up & he told me about his upcoming role as “Zach” in “A Chorus Line” @TeatroDelSoho in Málaga, Spain and invited me to the opening! I can’t wait to see Chita & Antonio together again!
