It’s been more than one month since devastating flooding struck eastern Kentucky, and we continue to work closely with local partners to support those who have lost so much. Thanks to the dedication of 700+ Red Cross disaster responders, we have been able to:
🛏 Support nearly 14,000 overnight stays in 25 emergency shelters
🍲 Provide more than 70,000 meals and snacks
⛑ Distribute 79,000 relief items to nearly 1,500 households
📑 Help more than 2,100 households with casework and financial assistance
❤️ Offer specialized support, like disaster mental health services
👓 Replaced prescription medications, eyeglasses and other critical medical equipment
And it doesn't stop there. Our relief operation is ongoing, including the positioning of virtual teams, shelter and feeding operations, and more.
It sometimes takes months or years for a community to rebuild after a disaster. Donations designated for this disaster are being used solely to help those in the affected eastern Kentucky communities. Any funds that were raised beyond what is needed for immediate emergency relief will be used for longer-term support, like additional financial assistance for those impacted and grants to local community organizations.
We are involved with the recovery process from start to finish, and we'll continue to work with our partners to determine how to best support the eastern Kentucky community.
