"The super rich are flying us towards climate disaster.
In recent weeks, the regular use of private jets by musicians, actors, and other celebrities has attracted a lot of attention.
Despite mounting concerns over the climate crisis and the fact that so many countries are grappling with record heat, raging fires, droughts and floods, the practice of taking brief journeys on luxury aircraft is still common among the rich and famous.
In just one hour, a single private jet can emit two tonnes of CO2. The average person in the EU emits 8.2 tCO2eq (tonnes of CO2 equivalent) over the course of an entire year.
A study by Linnaeus University in Sweden published two years ago found that frequent flying 'supper-emitters', who represent just 1% of the world's population, caused half of aviations carbon emissions in 2018.
The lifestyles of the rich are incompatible with climate justice. Super-rich super polluters can't keep flying around like there's no climate-crisis.
Private jets are the pinnacle of what's wrong with our transport system. Their use must be drastically reduced and restricted."
