Hidden away on one of the lower levels of the Mina Rica in south east Spain is a mined level where the walls are totally covered with beautiful, but delicate, gypsum. What fascinated me the most is that this gypsum has been forming since the miners created the tunnel — making it only c. 150 years old. It felt surreal and almost otherworldly being in a space where we were completely surrounded by bright white gypsum. #giantgeode #pulpigeode #gypsumcrystals #OnAssignment @natgeo
