Wilburn Ridge, 5,542, the second highest mountain in Virginia. Ascending Wilburn Ridge requires a steep, rocky, and somewhat dangerous scramble up a blue-blaze trail. The official route of the Appalachian Trail skirts the mountain. But I highly recommend taking the blue blaze to achieve the true high point. This is probably the best view in Grayson Highlands, and one of the best views in all of Virginia. In contrast, Mt. Rogers, the highest point in Virginia, does not have an open view.
