On Saturday Ukrainians and fellow New Yorkers gathered at Times Square to protest the recent actions made by media and humanitarian orgs, such as Amnesty International, to disseminate Pro-Russian statements. They called out social media platforms, such as Facebook and twitter, for shutting down Ukrainian accounts that spoke out against Russia. As Ukrainian accounts get taken down, Russian accounts that call for acts of terrorism, on the other hand, continue to have platforms online. On July 29th, the Russian Embassy of UK (still active) tweeted that the soldiers of Azov “deserve execution, but death not by firing squad but by hanging.”
Protestors also raised awareness about Ukrainians held captive by Russia. They demanded orgs that vow to raise awareness about human rights violations and protect human rights around the world, should focus on saving Ukrainian lives, rather than put uninformed and baseless blame on Ukrainians.
