Morning doodles Since I was a kid, the margins of my notebooks have been littered with doodles. Once I write down my groceries, I have to put the paper away or there is a risk of them getting lost under a mesh of words and faces. I felt like curating one of these a little bit, as normally they overlap and coalesce since I'm only ever interested in the word I'm writing in the moment. 🇬🇧⤵️ Je suis enchanté de dévoiler ma dernière œuvre à la galerie @articulemtl , "Mycorhization". Une exploration en collaboration et collectivité, j'ai cherché à tisser un lien entre les communautés de la Plaza Saint-Hubert, la construction qu'y déroule et le déménagement récent de la galerie à travers mes jeux de matérialité et d'imagerie. Je suis très fier du résultat, dépeignant des joueuses locales de la scène artistique et invitant à la multiplication de tels liens. Un grand merci à Meygan d'@ausgangplaza et Keithy de la @boutiqueespaceurbain pour leur participation et bonne volonté ainsi qu'à @robocutstudio pour leur flexibilité et beau travail, Piña pour l'aide avec le vinyle puis, finalement, toute l'équipe de la galerie qui n'ont été rien de moins que superbes et professionnels tout au long du projet. Merci! I'm thrilled to share my most recent piece at @articulemtl , "Mycorrhization." I sought to find ways of fostering collaboration and collectivism by threading links between the artistic communities of Saint-Hubert Plaza, the ongoing construction on its street and the gallery's recent move. I am very proud of the result, a depiction of local artistic players that seeks to entice the forging and discovery of other such connections. "Cattails and Pansies", 35' x 15', spray paint and latex on concrete, Halifax, Nova-Scotia, 2022. Big thank you to @halifaxmuralfestival and @princefuze for their trust and top-notch production on this one as well as @slick.skills for the help tracing, @algueux for the action shots, @swadeowens and @vbrumwellart for hosting me, @sbu and @ananasanonyme for the help with the maquette as well as all the other artists in the festival (with a special shout out to @miquemichelle). If I'm naming all these people, it's partly to underline the collaborative and involved nature of the work. I can't do big projects without other people lending their skills and time. For this piece, I wanted to draw the viewer into a scene of nature and abundance. I've been interested (as have been people I draw inspiration from) in "future imaginaires": the futures as we can imagine it, not just as is expected. A lot of my interest in foraging, hand-sourced materials and organic patterns stems from this. While paint is harder to adapt in this way, I was pleased to be able to use @trackside.studios ' leftover latex paint for all of the background. I chose cattails and pansies because both are edible and abundant (and they seemed well suited for Halifax's pride parade).
