Who would’ve thought in the 60s that the clean three box design for the Fiat 124 would’ve mostly become known as the main mode of transport for the Soviet Union? The VAZ 2102, also known as the Lada 1200, was built under license in the Soviet Union. The Italians worked together with the Soviets to start up a new car manufacturing plant in the Samara Region of Russia. They did so in a town named after the Italian communist leader Togliatti. Whilst the 1200 was already modified at around 800 (mostly cost-saving) points, this 1300 is an upgraded version.
