#NewYearShoutOut Bruce Peel, another Bruce who doesn’t use LinkedIn, is the founder and now retired CEO of Peel Nursery, and one of the first people I could recognize and speak of as a mentor. Bruce doesn’t just listen, and he doesn’t just speak. Every moment with Bruce Peel is a teaching moment, and a discussion can become a full-on philosophical exploration of an issue, any issue, if you welcome it. One of the things I learned from Bruce is that what we perceive as success or failure is not always what others judge us by. Rather, how we manage ourselves and respond to a challenge is what matters. How we self-regulate, and as a by-product how we make others feel, is what we are remembered for.
