Ten miles for #finishelizasrun
Why is this so important to me? Because I am a mom, I am a runner, I am a woman, I run alone. I am not an object, I am not disposable, I am not a second class citizen. I run to set goals and accomplish them, I run for my mental health, I run for my me time, I run to be healthy, I run to set an example for my kiddos. I should be able to run without weaponizing myself, I should be able to run at whatever time I feel like, I should be able to run in whatever clothing I am comfortable in, I should be able to feel safe and comfortable in any public space, I should know every time I will make it home to my husband and kids. Instead I have a watch with a panic button, instead I have my gps location tracked on my husband phone at all time, instead I commit to run in memory of a mom, woman and runner taken too soon.
The disgusting irony that in ten miles in memory of a female runner murdered I was harassed four times. Yes I saw you 50yr+ man honking at me and hanging yourself out the window, yes I saw you man on the bicycle stand there, turn fully around and stare me up and down for .15miles as I ran up to the corner you stood on. You are the problem, you are what is wrong with the world, you are pieces of shit. I hope you learn and do better but I don’t have much confidence you ever will.
