Delivering multiple aspect ratio edits and live streams have become the norm in the smartphone world and this production for Nike on SNKRS day was no exception, with a 9:16 aspect ratio being the sole delivery spec. This meant that we could really push the format with vertical viewing in mind. Thanks to the creative team at @studioboum for having us on board!
Within the vertical window, we mixed aspect ratios with various sources being displayed in multiple preset PiP layouts on the final output or physical monitors on set orientated in both landscape and portrait mode. OB2 took all of this in stride processing the different outputs using a mixture of centre crop and 2D rotation depending on the output type.
This wasn’t without its challenges though, not least because different phones themselves are different shapes and we had to define very tight specifications for the different safe areas. Vivid’s technical team worked closely with the app’s development team to test and retest.
