@atelier_van_lieshout collaborates with @masartemasaccion for 100 days of @documentafifteen.
Open now in Kassel, Germany, AVL & MAMA join forces to present "MAMA Doc Space", an ensamble of functional pieces, creating a mobile platform to host a program about climate justice and environmental rights; memory and the Colombian peace process; alternative non-capitalist ways of living in biodiverse territories; Afro-film narratives; and extractivisms, among other topics.
Positioned between the Orangerie and the River Fulda, "MAMA Doc Space" is lead by the "Werner", a powerful vehicle with a trailer that functions as a documentation center and living room. Named after famed German filmmaker Werner Herzog, its armored body has windows that function as hatches to beam films from or for the handing out of food for thought.
A second trailer with attached tent hosts workshops, films and other public activities. A 14-metre diameter wooden table, known as “the round table”, installed around a magnolia tree, is a meeting place for discussions and communal gatherings.
The invitation to collaborate for documenta fifteen continues upon the shared history of AVL and MAMA that begin in 2011 when the two entities worked together on "Chocó Base", an artist residency using a huge tree trunk as its base at MAMA's headquarters in Colombia.
