Little Richard, a massive talent with an equally massive personality to match. I'm gonna rock it up, I'm gonna rip it up.
I read Charles White’s book “The Life and Times of Little Richard”, based heavily on extensive interviews he did with him. Its a super fascinating read. Little Richard’s life was a total rollercoaster marked by a lot of conflicted feelings regarding his sexuality and religion. He pin-balled back and forth between bouts of extreme Jesus and extreme sexual escapades. In the book he describes an alleged backstage three way with Buddy Holly and a young lady. I'm gonna shake it up, gonna ball it up. He also talks about how much he absolutely despised John Lennon. I can dig it. Little Richard recounts his chance meeting with Esquerita- his friend, possible lover, and definite inspiration. Esquerita is fucking wild. If you can believe it, Little Richard is a toned down, radio friendly, sedated, and sanitized version of him. Norton has re-released some of LPs, recommended. I’m gonna rock it up, and ball tonight.
