I had the pleasure to paint with @dunawayfineart and her students in a 2:30hs painting session and I had so much fun with them. Michelle also did a beautiful demo while explaining her technique.
➡️ A bit about the process:
The model posed for 3 hours. 25 min posing, 5 minutes rest.
I did the drawing with a big brush, very fuzzy lines of burnt umber in the first 25 minute pose. I forgot to take a picture of the drawing, because I was very concentrated.
So I started blocking in the background in the left side with blue black (W&N) and Tit white very fast, just to create a mood and blend his shadows into the background a bit.
Than I painted the halph tones, beard, mouth, nose, eyes, starting from darks and slowly going towards the lights. Also making the chroma higher as I go towards the light parts.
Than In the end I did the ear and the background close to it.
I wanted to keep the brushstrokes simple in the chirt, so they would not compete with his face.
I did the background while painting what was close to it in the figure, so I could find some subtle edge differences between the figure and the background (hard, soft and lost edges).
So I completed this 20 by 30 cm in 2:30 hs of painting and liked the result. My last brushstroke was the highlight in the chick bone.
Thanks so much to @dunawayfineart for inviting me with your pure sweetness and to Laura and Frank from @theflorencestudio for always being so kind and generous.
