SUSTAIN
The question is not why be sustainable, it’s why not be sustainable? We speak to the barbershop owners who have found solutions to every eco challenge imaginable, and they share tips on how to be more green.
Taking care of your client is a barber’s number one consideration, and for Haydn Woodrow of @CoterieBarber, of equal priority is to ensure he does that in the most sustainable way possible…and he has a lot of advice to share.
No one enjoys the look of a huge dumpster out the back of salons full of waste, and often the council’s infrastructure is not set up to deal with recycling it, but at Coterie Barbers in Norwich, they have found ways of being as green a business as possible and have overcome the challenges of dealing with barbershop waste.
“We buy disposable @ScrummiTowels which are made from 100% sustainably sourced natural, biodegradable wool fibres. These towels can be composted and will biodegrade in eight weeks, but we don’t have a compostable bin big enough for the volume of towels we use. So, GSC picks them up and takes them to a composting centre.”
