[Day 288] Philippines 🇵🇭: Vigan, the Spanish colonial historic town.
From the sea we go to land to explore the unesco listed town, day & night we enjoy the vibe and dive into it’s history for a short period.
📚 Did you know?
The name of the town was given based on an anecdote of a Spaniard walking by the river asking a local “Como se Ilama usted de esta lugar?” (What is the name of this place) and the local not understanding Spanish, pointed to a plant saying “Bigaa Apo”. Bigaa transformed into Vigan thru out the years.
🧳 Backpacker tip:
There a lots of bike rentals to explore the place however walking is sufficient to do the town within a day so best is to plan other things to do in north of Luzon because a bus trip from Manila will set you back a lot of hours and pesos. About 1100 P for one way. You may want to explore the town by traditional horse rides or boat rides on the river to have different experiences.

🔮 “The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.” - Alan Bennett
