Western Parotia Bird of Paradise… ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣This is the last Bird of Paradise from my 9 Birds of Paradise Series. These birds are sexually dimorphic, meaning the male has a very impressive appearance with an iridescent colored golden green breast shield and a triangular silver feather on its crown, while the females are unadorned with brown plumage. Incredibly unique, the male birds courtship dance like a ballerina is world famous with its elongated black plumes spread around skirt-like, right below the iridescent breast shield. During the spectacular dance, he shakes his head and neck rapidly to show the brilliance of his inverted silver triangle-shaped head adornment to attending females. These were probably the hardest bird to photograph as they appeared in the wee hours of the morning and the roosting spot was a very dark underside to a wooded region on a sloping terrain. Getting adequate shutter for a mobile bird was hard.
