Day by day schedule Laugavegur Trail 🇮🇸 1️⃣ Arrival at Landmannalaugar basecamp The original trail starts in Landmannalaugar. Here you'll find a basecamp where you can stake your tent at the campground. From here you can make a few day hikes with stunning views before you start the Laugavegur Trail.  2️⃣ Landmannalaugar - Hrafntinnusker 12 km Starting the trail and hiking towards Hrafntinnusker, also the highest point on the trail. When passing some snowfields, GPS is recommended. It can be very windy up there at the basecamp. When the weather is bad, hike further to the next basecamp Álftavatn.  3️⃣ Hrafntinnusker - Álftavatn 12 km From Hrafntinnusker you make a big descent to Álftavatn basecamp which is lying by the big lake surrounded by the mountains. There is a really small restaurant where you can eat some pretty good burgers #hikerhunger. 4️⃣ Álftavatn - Emstrur 15 km Maybe the best day on trail. Desolate landscape, big black lava sandy trails with the moss green mountains around you. Some challenging river crossings before you arrive at the next basecamp where you find perfect camping spots along the riverside.  5️⃣ Emstrur - Þórsmörk 15 km Last day to Þórsmörk! Make sure you'll hike first to the Markarfljótsgljúfur canyon nearby Emstrur. Hike through the forest (yes really), enjoy the mountains, glaciers, rivers and everything Iceland has to offer before you end at the Vulcano hut and order some beers there. ✅️ From Þórsmörk you can take the bus to Reykjavik OR extend the trail and hike to Skogar and add 26 km more magic to your adventure. If this is still not enough you can also hike from Rjúpnavellir to Landmannalaugar (68 km, 3 days) before you start the trail  This week we'll give you an impression on our account in the stories and post on @_thru_hiking.
